What type of lessons do you offer?

All of our lessons are one-to-one and specialised for each learner. Group lessons can mean you or your child receives less attention, and we ensure that our music lessons are the highest quality and tailored specifically to you or your child’s needs. We offers both 60 minute and 30 minute lessons on all instruments – please contact us for more information, or book online today.

Where will the lessons take place?

Our teaching studio is in the centre of Liverpool at the following address:

Suite 9, 3rd Floor
City Buildings
21 Old Hall Street
Liverpool
L3 9BS

Click here for more detailed directions. The entrance for the building is in between Mangetout café and City Wine Bar + Kitchen. We are opposite Jolly Good Print on the 3rd floor of the building.

What parking is available?

On-street parking in Liverpool city centre is free after 6pm each day. The closest multi-storey car park is The Capital Car Park on Fazakerley Street, with other nearby car parks including the NCP near Moorfields and the NCP on Rumford Street.

When can I book a lesson?

We offer lessons every day of the week between the hours of 10am and 9pm. You can check our online booking system to see current availability – although if a time slot you want is already booked, please get in touch and we can help find a suitable arrangement.

For children:

Our lessons take place after school hours each day, and all day on weekends – meaning you can always find time to fit in a music lesson.

For adults:

We understand that for adults it can be difficult to commit to regular lessons at the same time each week. To help with this, we are happy to discuss your individual requirements to work around your commitments – feel free to get in touch with us.

As an adult learner, am I too old to learn how to play or sing?

Absolutely not – we offer lessons for individuals of all abilities and ages, and subscribe to the view that anyone can find enjoyment and pleasure from learning a musical instrument. We have experience of teaching adults of all ages, and will certainly be able to help guide you along as you perhaps begin learning a musical instrument for the first time. The guidance we can offer is tailored specifically to your needs and requirements, and we ensure that you’ll see practical results after attending our lessons.

Can I book a lesson as a gift?

We offer packages for gift lessons for all ages, instruments and abilities. Get in touch to discuss the different options we can offer when arranging gift lessons for a friend or loved one.

What payment types do you accept?

We accept payment by cash, cheque, and online by debit/credit card through PayPal. You will not need to sign a direct debit agreement with us in order to take regular lessons – although we do offer discounts for block-booking lessons. We aim to be flexible and will always take into account individual requirements with regards to payment options and plans.

As a parent, do I need to attend lessons?

All of our teachers are DBS (formerly CRB) checked, and have extensive experience of working with children – so you can feel confident that your child will develop independence and creative skills if a parent or guardian is not present at their lessons. Certainly we encourage parents to attend the first lesson their child has with us, as this is an important time to discuss the direction of future learning. Afterwards we are happy to accommodate whether parents wish to attend every lesson, or would rather their child attends their music lessons independently.

How do you ensure child safety?

All of our staff are DBS (formerly CRB) checked, and these documents can be viewed at any time at your convenience. We have a child protection policy in place at Prelude School of Music, and would be happy to discuss and show this to any parents who have questions or queries. Through many years of experience teaching music to young people across Merseyside, we have built up a strong reputation among many parents, whose children have received lessons from our teachers for many years. We would be happy to share testimonials from parents who can provide references for all of our teachers.

What support do you offer for music exams?

We have experience of guiding many students through their music exams, with exam boards including ABRSM and Trinity. We can also offer support with Rock School exams, which are more oriented towards rock & popular music styles and allow you to sing or perform rock or pop songs of your own choosing. We offer support all the way from learning and practising exam pieces, through to booking exams and further guidance upon finding out results. Music exams can be an excellent way for children and adults alike to receive a structured, accredited music education. At Prelude School of Music we have the resources and skills to enable you or your child to succeed in music exams.

How can you support my child in their GCSEs or A-Levels?

We offer support services for students undertaking formal music examinations, and have a strong knowledge of the current national music curriculum. This enables us to tailor our lessons to build upon your child’s strengths, and encourage development in areas where they may be weaker. Exam season is a stressful time for young people, and we are well aware of the types of pressures they can be under – when college and university places may depend upon achieving the highest grades. Rest assured that our teachers, all of whom have advanced degrees in Music, can support students throughout their school and college music educations.

How much time will it take before I/my child can play well?

This really varies, and ultimately depends upon the amount of time you or your child can commit to practising. Ideally practice should take place daily, if only for a short amount of time – and gradually this will add up to a significant amount of time spent learning an instrument. The truth is, there is no secret to learning a musical instrument – but we can provide the skills and guidance to provide you with the best resources, exercises and tasks to help you progress as quickly as possible.

How can I arrange a lesson or discuss different options with you?

Please feel free to use either our online booking system, or contact us directly by email or telephone.
